Overview
Connect your own Gmail or Google Workspace mailbox to search your correspondence, read messages, whole conversations and attachments, and send email — from LawLink and from your AI assistant. Each person connects their own mailbox; nobody sees anyone else's.
Read live, never stored. LawLink fetches mail from Google when you ask for it and keeps no copy. Nothing from your mail is used to train any model.
Connecting Gmail
Start from LawLink
Open Integrations, find Gmail and click Connect. Google opens and asks you to choose the account.
Allow both permissions
Google lists two permissions: view your email messages and settings and send email on your behalf. Leave both ticked — LawLink refuses a connection with only one, rather than connecting and then failing.
"Google hasn't verified this app"? While LawLink's Google app completes Google's review for mailbox access, Google shows this warning, and only people added as test users can continue (Advanced → Go to LawLink). Your LawLink contact can add you.
Google Workspace firms: trust the app once
If your firm uses Google Workspace, your Workspace administrator can mark LawLink as trusted (Admin console → Security → Access and data control → API controls → Manage third-party app access → Configure new app, then search for LawLink or paste the OAuth client ID your LawLink contact gives you). Everyone in the firm can then connect without the warning above.
What LawLink Can Access
Exactly two Google permissions: gmail.readonly (read messages, threads, labels and
attachments) and gmail.send (send as you). LawLink cannot delete, archive, label or
change any message, and cannot change your Gmail settings.
Disconnecting: LawLink deletes its stored access to your mailbox
immediately. Google keeps listing LawLink under your account's third-party access, because
removing it there can also disconnect any Google Drive or Google Calendar you use through
LawLink. Remove it at myaccount.google.com/permissions if you want LawLink signed
out of every Google product at once.
What You Can Do
Search and read
Use Gmail's own search syntax, or pass a client's address to see every email with them. Dates are exact.
GET /api/v1/google-mail/messages?address=jane@example.com&date_from=2026-09-01
GET /api/v1/google-mail/messages?q=subject:settlement has:attachment
GET /api/v1/google-mail/threads/{thread_id}
GET /api/v1/google-mail/messages/{message_id}/attachments/{attachment_id}
Send
Send from your own address, with attachments if needed. Give
reply_to_message_id and the reply joins that conversation.
POST /api/v1/google-mail/messages/send
POST /api/v1/google-mail/messages/send-with-attachments
⚠️ Sent email cannot be recalled. Through an AI assistant, sending is a separate tool marked as one that changes things, so assistants ask you before using it. LawLink first returns a preview with a confirmation code and sends only that exact message — a reply's subject is kept so it stays in the same thread.
Limits
Google allows each mailbox 6,000 "quota units" a minute. A search costs 5, plus 20 for each result whose sender, subject and date are shown — so a search shows at most 100 results at a time; reading a whole thread costs 40 and sending 100. Narrow searches by address, date or keyword rather than reading the whole mailbox. Unsent drafts are left out of searches unless asked for. A message can have at most 500 recipients and be at most 35 MB.
Troubleshooting
"Connected without … permission"
A box was unticked on Google's screen. Connect again and leave both ticked.
"Sign-in has expired"
Google withdrew the sign-in — a password change, removed access, or, while the app is in Google's review, its weekly expiry for test users. Reconnect Gmail.
"Rate limit reached"
The mailbox's per-minute Google quota was used up. Wait a minute and narrow the search.
